Choosing a product

You can productize anything that will have standalone value to the client and doesn't need your continuous feedback or input. That usually means sharing your knowledge. We recommend focusing on a niche you're familiar with rather than creating something very broad. It will be much easier for you to demonstrate the value of your product and stand out.

When you think about it, the reason people even consider purchasing something from creators is that they believe in their specific knowledge of a given subject, which they can't obtain through usual - and let's be honest, very often much cheaper - means. For example, there are plenty of traditional books, articles, and videos about how to start a successful fitness coaching business, but it's something else when you can get access to a full collection of unfiltered knowledge and insights from a successful fitness coach you follow and admire.

Your specific knowledge won't be marketing, coaching, or consulting. Your specific knowledge will be something much more particular and connected to you as a person. This is what you have to base your digital products on. There are plenty of resources about general topics, and your addition probably won't be what people were waiting for to spend their money on.

💡 Keep in mind

You'll be golden if you can clearly communicate why you are an expert in a certain field, how your expertise or perspective is unique, and convince your audience it's all hidden in your digital product.

The right form

Creating digital products is about distilling your expertise into content your customers can consume. It's important to present it in a bite-sized and polished form. You have to evaluate what your expertise is and in which form it would be most valuable to the customer.

Courses

Courses are considered to be the most robust digital products aimed at educating the audience. They're structured into modules and lessons to simplify navigation and make it easy for learners to find what they need. To elevate the learning experience, professionally produced courses are narrated and recorded on video, often with helpful information displayed on the screen. We'll take a closer look at the courses in the next lesson.

eBooks

eBooks are very popular because they're simple to make. It can be all plain text, but you can certainly incorporate some images or illustrations if you want. Other than that, there's not much to it. Once you have it written, put a table of contents at the beginning with page numbers of different chapters, add copyright information, create a cover image that you can use as a title page and which you'll need anyway when listing your eBook online, export it in the PDF format and you're good to go. If you're not sure how to approach the table of contents and copyright information page, feel free to check out any other book and copy the structure. Don't copy anything pertaining to the specific book, such as the ISBN number or detailed publishing information.

Regarding the length of your eBook, the only rule to stick to is to use exactly as many pages as you need to communicate what you want. Some people like longer books, others like shorter books. Rather than trying to optimize for an ideal length that doesn't exist, focus on quality. Don't be misled by the number of pages of traditional books that sometimes go well beyond 300. eBooks from creators are much shorter. There's no need to use tricks like choosing a larger font to fill more pages.

When you're self-publishing and not selling your book through major retailers, you won't need ISBN. If you ever need it, check who issues ISBNs in your country - usually, it's a governmental institution or national library. Some countries will issue it for free, others charge a fee in the region of $30 - $100. Your eBook certainly belongs to your Flowlance Creator Store, and listing it on Amazon KDP will help you reach people actively looking to buy a book about your topic - you don't need ISBN for either of them.

💡 Keep in mind

There's no need to artificially increase the page count with filler content just to make the eBook look more valuable.

Plans

If you're a coach of any sort, making a plan your audience can follow is an ideal digital product. Creating a timeline with suggested steps is the most basic option, but try to integrate something more into it to increase its attractiveness and value. What about a section about suggested activities the person can do in between the steps, a section with things to avoid, or a section about how to talk to family and friends about the person deciding to follow the plan if it's about something others will notice?

Always think this way: How can I provide the most value? It can be little things that won't take you long to create, but they will dramatically increase the value of your plan and show potential customers that it's a comprehensive product you put a lot of effort into, not just a simple guide that you scribbled on a piece of paper to make a quick buck.

Templates

If you regularly use any type of document or file or create one for your clients, you can start selling these as templates. If you're a photographer or videographer you can sell presets, if you're a business coach you can sell business plan or financial planning templates, if you're an HR consultant you can sell employee onboarding templates, if you're a lawyer you can sell contract or agreement templates, and so on.

The best thing about templates is that they don't require much additional work to prepare them for selling. You likely have tons of them in your templates folder. Be careful when pricing the templates - don't make them too expensive, but not too cheap, either - you want to avoid incentivizing your potential clients to buy a template rather than book a consultation that would be more expensive.

Remember

👉 Focusing on niche expertise tied to your unique skills and perspective will help you to stand out.

👉 Keep your digital products polished and easy to consume in bite-sized portions.

👉 For eBooks, prioritize quality over length - the filler content won’t help you.

👉 Short additional sections in plans make them look much more complete and robust.

👉 Always ask yourself how you can create value - even small touches can make a big difference.

👉 Templates are easy to create and sell but price them wisely to avoid undercutting higher-value services.

Homework

1️⃣ Define your niche by writing down your area of expertise and list three specific topics where your knowledge stands out.

2️⃣ Evaluate competitors and research similar products in your niche to identify what they do well and how you can improve or differentiate.

3️⃣ Based on your field, expertise, and audience needs, decide whether your first product will be a course, eBook, plan, or template.

👏 Keep leading strong!
